Removing Tile On Plaster Walls

Repair any loose or cracked tiles. Next use a chisel and hammer to pry the tiles off of the wall. Rub your plaster walls for days with a wet sponge and nothing happens except for you getting blisters and sore muscles. I am not a professional as you can see but i have painted these pink tiles and happy to be rid of them.

Plaster is waterproof and it bonds tenaciously to just about anything. Let the mastic remover sit according to manufacturer directions then scrape the wall with a putty knife or metal scraper removing the adhesive. You should be able to slide a putty or plaster knife underneath the tile. In order to remove the tile and cause little to no damage to your plaster put down the sledgehammer.

You need to use the proper tools and work at a slow pace. Cut away the grout surrounding the tile or tiles that you want to remove. If existing tiles are beyond repair remove the tile and install a piece of wallboard in its place. When you believe you have removed or cut away most of the grout stop and examine your work.

Be careful to cut away only the grout and not into the wall. Remove the tile and prepare the wall according to the corresponding instructions above or tile over the existing tile. To remove wall tiles start by heating up the grout between the tiles with a blow dryer so it s easier to remove. Clumps of tile adhesive divots from where part of the drywall came off with the tile and other marks will probably be left on the wall as well.
