Chromic acid is not kiddy stuff. Use a clean piece of scotch bright moving in a linear motion to produce a straight grain. An excellent cleaner for copper is chromic acid. To make the copper all shiny again buff the awning with another soft dry cloth.

Then clean it with soap and water. Wet down the copper first then use a 10 bleach solution to wash off the copper. Clean off residue or road grime with a mild solution of bleach and water. 10 seconds in this cold juice makes it look like new.

Rinse the metal with water and dry it with a microfiber cloth. Wait for fifteen minutes and rinse the awning with a lot of water using a garden hose or buckets of water.
